BNP Paribas Investment Partners has appointed Jean-Charles ‘JC’ Sambor as Deputy Head of Emerging Market Fixed Income, based in London.

Sambor reports to L. Bryan Carter, Head of Emerging Market Fixed Income.

In this new role, Sambor will support Carter in the management of all portfolios and the ongoing development and implementation of the investment process, as well as contributing to emerging market fixed income asset allocation decisions for all benchmarked and absolute return global multi-sector portfolios.

He will also be involved in the promotion of existing funds and mandates and the innovation of new product offerings.

Sambor has 15 years’ experience of emerging markets, covering research, strategy, portfolio management and risk management, and has had a strong focus on Asia throughout much of his career.

He joins from the Institute of International Finance (IIF), where he was Asia-Pacific Regional Director and CEO of IIF APAC Ltd, based in Singapore, advising central banks, government policy makers, supranational organizations, asset managers and regulators.

Previously he was Managing Director and Head of Global Emerging and Frontier Fixed Income at Everest Capital, where he launched and managed an absolute return emerging market debt fund and a frontier fund.

Prior to this he was Senior Vice President of TCW (Trust Company of the West) Emerging Markets group in Los Angeles, responsible for Asia emerging markets fixed income and currency strategy.  He began his financial career at Société Générale, where he was an emerging markets analyst covering Asia and Africa, and has also taught at various universities including Sciences Po in Paris.

Commenting on the appointment, Carter said: “We are very pleased to welcome JC Sambor to the BNP Paribas Investment Partners Emerging Markets Fixed Income team.  Investors increasingly view the asset class as attractive again and JC’s considerable experience gained within a range of organizations will enable us to further broaden our research capability and differentiate our investment offering.”

BNP Paribas Investment Partners’ emerging market fixed income team consists of nine investment professionals and manages assets totaling $1.2bn across a range of mutual funds and segregated client accounts.
