Alterra Capital Partners, an Africa-focused private equity firm with offices in Johannesburg and Lagos, has appointed two senior recruits to lead its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) work.

Seynabou Ba joins Alterra as its Senior Adviser on ESG.

She was previously the head of ESG for sub-Saharan Africa at the International Finance Corporation where she led the promotion of sustainable private sector investments while overseeing a portfolio of over 380 companies.

Most recently, she founded the leading consultancy, ESG Africa, advising private sector clients on ESG risk management.

Rochelle Chetty joins as head of ESG from Standard Bank Group where she served as senior environmental and social risk manager and was responsible for the development and implementation of an ESG screening system for all financial products.

She is an environmental scientist with previous ESG experience at Yemen Liquefied Natural Gas and at Golder Associates Africa.

Chetty will work closely with Ba to deliver ESG goals for Alterra and its portfolio companies.

Genevieve Sangudi, Partner at Alterra, said: “ESG is fundamental to our approach at Alterra. We are delighted to welcome both Seynabou and Rochelle on board – they make one of the strongest ESG teams not only in Africa but in Private Equity.”
