BLC Chambers, a Mauritian legal firm, has announced the merger with Etude Robert, pooling up competences within the dispute resolution practice area for a diverse and growing client base in Mauritius and beyond.

BLC will rebrand as BLC Robert & Associates.

The merger and rebranding will take full effect as from July 2016.

Founded in 1857, Etude Robert has a long-standing litigation practice as attorneys.

The firm advises Mauritian commercial firms, banks, insurance companies, and sugar companies; more recently, hotel companies, offshore businesses and textile industries.

“We are very excited by this move,” said André Robert, who will co-head with Senior Counsel Iqbal Rajahbalee the Dispute Resolution Group of the combined firm.

“This will be a full service independent Mauritian law firm with significant expertise in all the major economic sectors of Mauritius.”

With the synergy of its talented barristers and attorneys, the firm will pursue its ideals of innovation and excellence to maintain itself ahead of the curve.

“Through Africa Legal Network (ALN), the firm has an unmatched footprint in Africa,” Robert added.

Set up in 2005, BLC Chambers has quickly established itself as a leading Mauritian firm.

It left the beaten track of the generalist lawyer to focus on corporate, commercial and financial law, and gained a cutting edge on advising and handling complex cross border transactions.

“We’re very proud to be joining forces with the well-respected team of Etude Robert, sharing its heritage of work culture and values,” said Iqbal Rajahbalee, Managing Partner of BLC Chambers.

“Our respective firms complement each other and the combination will ensure that we are market leaders across all fields including now Dispute Resolution and Intellectual Property. Both firms have always demonstrated an unwavering commitment to personal attention, integrity and professionalism,” he added.
